Run Away Ostrich on Quezon City Passed Away Because of Stress

Lately, a video of a running ostrich along a subdivision at Quezon City has gone viral and caught the attention of people. Because it is actually unusual to see an ostrich inside a subdivision running freely.

The video even reached different TV and radio stations. The ostrich was later on revealed that it was own by Jonathan Cruz, afterwards he gave the custody to Wildlife Rescue Center of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)

But even before it happened Jonathan told that the ostrich died due to stress, yet the DENR wants to see real evidence and they would like to see the ostrich’s dead body. According to DENR Undersecretary Benny Antiporda, they presented a valid permit to transport Cruz to Nueva Ecija.

The ostrich is originally from Mindanao. They will conduct an investigation regarding the situation and how these flightless appeared in Quezon City.

Antiporda is still wondering why the bird was seen in Mapayapa Village III in Barangay Pasong Tamo in Diliman when Jonathan’s address was registered at Balingasa which is actually 13 meters away from Mapayapa. Because of the incident, many people are now asking if it's legal to pet a wild animal such as ostrich.

As stated by Dr. Rona Sinaon of the Biodiversity Management Bureau, it is allowed to pet wild animals but they need to get a certificate of Wildlife Registration at DENR.
