House Panel Denied ABS-CBN's Application for New Franchise




ABS CBN franchise DENIED. July 10, 2020, is the most painful date in history for the ABS-CBN network.  House Committee on legislative franchise obeys the opinion or the suggestion of the technical working group to reject the proposal of ABS CBN to seek for the continuation of the franchise.



Eighty-five of the committee; 46 regular members and 39 ex-officio members that complete the votes: 70  approved the rejection of the franchise, 11 votes to accept the franchise proposal, 2 to inhibit, and 1 to abstain. As a result of the hearing, the proposal of ABS CBN is denied. A lot of processes, a total of 13 hearings done just to finalize the decision of the approval of the franchise. 




ABS CBN network worked for a 25-year franchise valid until May 4 of this year. A day after the franchise lapsed, National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) ordered ABS-CBN to cease its television and radio operations. The network continued broadcasting its shows via alternative platforms, prompting the House to look into its alleged "dummy" operations.




According to the House Legislative franchise panel chair and Palawan 1st district representative. ABS CBN can appeal the decision within the next 24 hours. And f the network files a motion into reconsideration the House Committee will do another hearing for ruling an appeal.
